Success=20 Story
Alfredo Von=20 Samek, President
Chicago Architectural Metals
Chicago,=20 Illinois
Chicago Architectural Metals opened for = business=20 in 1997, founded by Alfredo
Von = Samek, a=20 former Lieutenant in the US Army and Special Agent for the = FBI.
After = completing=20 his civil career, Alfredo worked in the international importing = and
exporting of metals as well as = in metal=20 fabrication and erection. It was this
experience that=20 led to his entrepreneurial adventure, a boutique firm that
specializes in=20 custom ornamental iron, structural steel and architectural metals.
From = the start=20 the SBA was there to help providing sound business = experience
and = knowledgeable=20 guidance.
In the = beginning=20 the jobs were small and not particularly glamorous=E2=80=93 = lockers,
wrought = iron=20 fence repairs and the like. However, within a year, by building = on
these = modest=20 projects, and consistently providing good customer service, = quality
craftsmanship and=20 value, it wasn=E2=80=99t long before the firm began to grow in = size,
projects, scope=20 and numbers.
In = 1998, after=20 graduating from the University of Michigan, Jonathan Von = Samek,
the = eldest of=20 Alfred=E2=80=99s sons came to work for his father with a strong interest = in=20 the
business side of=20 the operation. Joining his father in estimating, and field = work,
Jonathan spent a=20 number of years as a Project Manager before being promoted
to Vice = President=20 of Chicago Architectural Metals where he = now oversees=20 many
of the = company=E2=80=99s=20 largest projects, most recently those include the Wrigley
Global = Innovation=20 Center and The University of Illinois at Chicago=E2=80=99s=20 Gateway
Plaza = and=20 Skyspace, where renowned artist James Turrell created a portal to=20 the
University and Chicago Architectural Metals provided = the architectural metals
and = structural=20 steel.
Though = the=20 company has stayed at a manageable size, this hasn=E2=80=99t been = a
limiting factor=20 when considering projects =E2=80=93 with work ranging from = custom
balcony railings=20 to one of a kind sculptural residential and commercial = staircases,
to = large scale=20 projects such as the renovation of one of Chicago=E2=80=99s = most=20 visible
train = stations=20 at Millennium Park, Chicago Architectural Metals has = fulfilled=20 its
mission to=20 become a one-stop shop for all metal fabrication and erecting=20 needs.
Today, = the=20 company that was founded in 1997 has continued its = consistent
growth = average=20 of 20-25% annually, and is ever increasing the scope of = work
provided and the=20 geographic regions served.

included custom=20 work for Walt Disney=E2=80=99s Soaring Project in Orlando = Florida,
curtain wall for=20 Helmut Jahn=E2=80=99s architecturally significant IIT State Street=20 building,
repair = work on=20 Chicago=E2=80=99s landmark Navy=20 Pier Ferris Wheel and elegant
restoration work=20 for the famed Drake Hotel and the Historic Riverside Water
Tower, = a=20 structure designated as an American Water Landmark in 1972.
These = examples=20 point to the scope of CAM=E2=80=99s innovative work and emphasis = on
quality in=20 construction and architectural/ornamental metals.
While = hard work,=20 experience and perseverance played a large part in the
success of Chicago Architectural Metals, a key = guiding=20 element from the start,
and = along the=20 way, has been the SBA business development specialists,
according to=20 Alfredo Von Samek, President of CAM. =E2=80=9CThe SBA served to = mentor
our = company,=20 guiding our staff through the comprehensive
application/certification=20 process, providing programs and opportunities for
networking and=20 business development.=E2=80=9D It is with continued support from the = SBA
that = CAM plans=20 to continue their growth and meet ever-expanding business
goals = in the=20 upcoming year.
